Any clues anyone? I just did a heater core - 2.5 hour version - on my 89. I have an after market cd player that had no issues before pulling the dash. I think everything is back as it was before except for the clock connection. I'm fairly sure it was disconnected before pulling the dash so I plugged it back in.

One other thing, I pulled the intake and back brackets off to make hose and ac line removal easier and was checking for valve cover oil leak.

The battery did drain because I left the hood and trunk light on.

does the pitch change with the engine rpms?

odds are you have a loose ground somewhere, which causes the noise. go back and check every single ground point you removed/replaced, and see if that'll fix it. you can also buy ground loop isolators at radioshack or the like, but i don't prefer that option. i had one for a while in my ipod hookup and sound quality actually suffered, don't know if it was just a poor quality isolator or what though.

Thanks Houstinojillian. Yeah I suspect a grounding issue but I didn't see/don't know of any grounds that I removed let alone forgot to reconnect. Yes it is an increasing noise with increased rpms. I refuse - right now - to use a filter to rid the noise since I didn't have it before. Besides the large ground wire that connects via nut to the rear passenger side intake brace what others are there?

Well what you could do, and probably should do... most car grounding creats loops, especially in older cars where they use a common ground for alot of different components. One thing you can try is cut the ground wire, and ground it somewhere else. Should be (should) be the first and easiest place to start!

I had the same prob. I used a filter from radioshack (idk if they carry it anymore), and it kinda got rid if it.... this is before I learned about ground loops :)

Another thing to check which is "sorta simple" is this. Follow the wires from your radio/stereo etc. If you have your wires (for speakers/power and ground) laying/tucked side by side like " === " this that will cause the "wine". what you need to do is have your wires cross like " + " this instead. I had the same problem when I did my stereo. I had my wires go from the stereo to the EQ (mounted under the radio in the coin tray/ cup holder area). Then the other wires (power/ground/speaker/amp/EQ) were then routed to the trunk where I had my bass speakers and amp. I grounded my grounded on the side were the fuel pump reset switch is located. I made sure that I did not run any of my wires side by side with each other. If I did have to cross them, that is what I did I "crossed" them, and used twist ties to keep them apart. It really helped. Also try to have all your ground wires (from stereo/cd player/amp /eq etc.) try and have all the grounds "meet" in one area. then from that one area run one ground wire to the frame. You may have to scrape a little paint away first. Another thing, check all your connections. Make sure they are all snug and not loose. Good luck buddy!!

same problem here, what happens is the wiring kit that plugs into the stock cables (the square speaker one) gets the pins pushed out when it's assembled. look at the back of it and you will see a few wire sticking out more than the others. :thumb:

Thanks folks, I finally ran another ground from the unit to the dash metal support. About 95% gone. The other 5% may have been there before. I had noticed when I pulled the antenna the unit would shut off so I went to Tweaters and consulted with them. They said the same thing and that it was grounding through the antenna without this other ground. Isn't there supposed to be a major ground going to the passager side rear intake mount? I thought there was one when I did my 60k. I also found that my oil sensor wires have broken off the sensor. Would that contribute?

Well ******** award goes to me. With the better weather I decided to get to the bottom of my oil leak. Had done the cam seals. Thought I did a good job and the oil around the rear cam sensor was much less but it was still dripping on my cats and smoking me out. Went for the rear valve cover gasket thinking I rolled it doing the 60k. Lo and behold! I found my missing ground wire that goes to the right rear manifold support. Yeah pinched in the valve cover and yes it did cut through the gasket.
