I had an Alpine head unit installed in my 93 shortly after I bought it. The system is not the JBL, but the lowly premium sound unit. I personally don't recommend using the factory premium sound, as my Alpine (CDA-7892) can only get to about 18 or so on volume before distortion becomes a factor.

Any recommendations about how to either quell the distortion, or hook the amp up without using deck power? This unit came with time correction, three sets of preamp outputs, and I have the system crossovers set at 160 Hz for all four speakers. I am also running two 10" kicker subs (about 350 W).

Look, what I'm wondering is:

Can I provide the factory amp with power and signal without using the Alpine deck's power?

Or is it just a lost cause until I can find a 4 channel amp?
