yes i searched.... but i cant find my answer....
im finishing up my trans swap.. and i wanted to get new SFB's.
I wanted to go with Aluminum, but im not sure on a few things... like the recall. how can you tell if it has it? Do i have to do anything to the subframe? i was reading about you having to notch out the subframe, which i dont mind doing, i just need to know what to do it on... the AL, police, or the 96? Im not to sure on what all i need.
I really want aluminum, from the response that i have heard from them. and yes i know i need the cup style... not the ring....
i want to order them tody, that way i can get them ASAP, so any help would be greatly appreaciated! Im going to go search alittle more......
thanks guys!

The recall requires two large (as in abour 2 inches diameter) holes to be cut into the floor boards of the car. It is quite obvious if you pull the carpet and sounds matt back and take a look. Under the pedals on the drivers side, and in the same area on the pasengers.

As for the ALSFBs, they are fantastic. The ones I have (Bruce's RING style) required zero modification, and have provided trouble free service for just about 8k miles now.

Also with the recall you should have plugs in the floor pan if the dealer did it. They are rubber. Then if you look in the hole you will see a nut welded to a peice of flat stock. They should be silver painted. Make sure that thenut is on top and the flat stock is what contacts the floor pan. I have those nuts for sale(cheap) if you need them.

If your car has been in texas its whole life, you shouldn't need nor have the recall done. Chances are it has not.

Police sfb's should fit although I don't know what they are. If they fit the Taurus they should fit. Some have gone with the GenIII sfb's. It may require a bit of modification but I hear they work very well. It should be archived here somewhere. The alsfb's are a great mod and should not require notching the subframe.

I took mine to the dealer and they did it for free, I never knew what exactly they did besides new bolts and washers. what is involved with the recall? I never knew they drilled holes in my car! I can't believe they didn't tell me that! Why is it important to do so?

Sorry not trying to thread jack~!

The nuts are not accessible from the bottom and thats why they drill holes. To get to them from the top.

Word!

Saleen you shouldn't need the recall. I can't recall anyone in our Texas group that needed it done.

Go with the ALSFB. You won't be disappointed.

going with new bolts is a good idea. But you shouldn't have to drill to put the new nuts in.

The recall kit comes with new bolt, washer and the nut.

I bought the recall kit when I first started modding my SHO but only used the bolts in the kit.

considering you are in TX, there is no reason other than availability or price to choose one style over the other. The "anti-ring" bushing people's argument only has a small amount of merit on the potentially rust belt weakened cars. Specifically where the bushing meets the body if there is lots of rust and fatigue there.

250+ sets of ring bushings sold here, not one failure. Don't care what the naysayers have to say, no failures no horrible firey crashes, no subframes flying off of cars. 10 years from now I'll be saying the same thing, ring or cup both are way way overdesigned for thier application.

I'm just sorry that I'm all out of bushings for at least 2 weeks, Josh at SHOnut always has bushings in AL in stock.

Ditto, although I also installed the new nuts in the front mounts since I could get to them without drilling holes in my floorpan. The recall kit's bolts are galvanized for rust prevention. My OEM bolts and nuts were in fine shape after 13 years and 268,000 miles when I replaced them. Rust would have changed that.

Hey josh i followed the grain and about 20 minutes ago bought some al sfb from Shonut because everyone says hes got them and hes quick to get them to you. Mine has been in texas all its life too so i hope it doesnt need the recall kit.

Im not trying to hijack your thread or anything but since we have the twin shos here and were both doing the same thing ill ask this. Ive read in the search that the al's from shonut require modification to fit, is this correct? My car has never been in an accident and has never been exposed to snow or salt so its essentially as good as 128k body can get. Will i have a problem getting them in? I plan to install them before i put the tokicos and intrax in so i can see the difference everyone praises.

For reference Josh with shipping mine was like 115 bucks. I hurridly did it and im loaded up on sinus medication so i cant recall what the exact number was. It was like 95 bucks for the bushings and 12.99 to ship them so id assume you would be the same. ( all the prices i just quoted may be a dollar or 2 off as im sick as a dog and cant remember what i just did about 30 minutes ago :bonk: )

thanks Karson!

do you know how long it will be for shipping?

Also, how much do the bushings cost from ford? And the recall kit?
Im running out of time, and i need to put my car back together... i dont want to put the bolts back in there.... because 2 of them, are starting to disolve...

if the recall kit, and the new bushings, are under 120.... i will be oing that route... but, if i can get the aluminum SFB here in a couple of days.... then i will go that route....
i need part numbers, and prices on the stuff from ford, the recall kit, and the SFB's....
thanks for the help guys!
