Well not exactly but i did have a pretty good scare today.

Well ever since my last drag strip visit 3rd grinds going into gear. But has not stopped me from beating the ever living shit out of it. Today i decided to pull a few launches and i hit third gear, grinded but went into gear fine but when it came time to shift into 4th it would not let me out of gear. After a few seconds it came out of third and shifted fine through all the gears.

While daily driving it i either skip 3rd or rev match it, buy my question to you guys what kinda of damage can this cause? I am thinking of ditching this whole tranny for a used one and just doing a diff swap. But i could just swap in new syncros and blocking rings and be good... I think, not sure if i could possibly be damaging 3rd by grinding it all the time.

You'd be better off finding a whole 'nother trans, just to have spare parts. I mean, you could swap the synchros and blocking rings, but where are you going to get those from? Plus, you don't know what else is broken...

Just skip third, resist the urge to shift hard, save it for the track, and even at the track, be kind to it. Sure, another tenth is fun to shave from your time, but how many millions of tenths will be spend fixing the trans?

And, get into auto-x and road course work, easier on your SHOs components (if not on tires and brakes, but you have to pick your poison I guess)

And something you already know.. quite a few people who are and were on this board over the years, that had the same desire to race at the track and/or flog their car around town.. eventually went to a different platform. That's not a personal critique, it's just logical to get something that can better accommodate what you want to do. The right tool for the job so to speak.

I know where to get new syncros. Not cheap, but i only need 3/4.
I guess ill pick up a used trans and do a diff swap.

I dont ever plan on getting rid of my blue car cause i enjoy beating the snot out of it. Sometimes its not about who is the fastest at the track.
