I've searched but I can't find what it means.
The light flases 10 times then stops for 2 seconds then it does it all over again.

Any ideas?

To me it sounds like the last one, rapid continuous flashing. Looks like there was no way to mistake it for anything else, the rest don't even add up to ten if you miss the pause.

Found this on TCCA...

Air Bag Diagnostic Codes
1989-1991

On the '89-91 systems, you simply count the flashes from the Airbag lamp to get the fault code.
Code Component Fault/Description
2 All Primary Crash Sensors Disconnected.
3 Air Bag Deployment Circuit - Low Battery Voltage or Low Backup Power Supply Voltage
4 Safing Sensor - Diagnostic Circuit Open or Low Primary Crash Sensor Resistance
5 Air Bag Circuit or Crash Sensor Circuit - Shorted to Ground
6 Driver-Side Air Bag Circuit - Open or High Resistance
7 Passenger-Side Air Bag Circuit - Open or High Resistance
8 Primary Crash Sensor - Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly
9 Primary Crash Sensor Circuit - Open or High Resistance
10 Diagnostic Monitor Internal Thermal Fuse - Open Due to Intermittent Short to Ground
1992-

In the 1992 model year the systems changed. 1992 System 2 was used in the Taurus/Sable, Town Car (built after 11/5/91), and Continental. To obtain the code on this system, count two sets of flashes and interpret it as a 2-digit code (e.g., flash-flash pause flash-flash-flash = 23)

Whatever you do, don't replace the diagnostic monitor before you find the short. Those monitors are expensive, and you'll just blow another (non-serviceable) fuse again, resulting in the monitor being useless.

Hey there!

Just found this thread doing a seach on air bag codes.

My '91 is flashing 10 times also.

10 Diagnostic Monitor Internal Thermal Fuse - Open Due to Intermittent Short to Ground

What the heck does this mean and what's the remedy?

Smells like a loose connection to me. "Intermittent". I personally have a 92 with a 93 bag, and I just spliced my airbag in, and I'm getting a 32 saying I've got an "open" myself... pretty sure its just a loose connection somewhere, cause I know I didn't messup the clock spring.

So a loose connection somewhere in the system is the cause???

Holy crap!! With my electrical skills that sounds like a nightmare! I think a simple piece of electrical tape over that darn light might be an easier fix.

I wish I had a gen 1 CD, but I don't.... or I would post it up.. its not really too large of a system really. Just tedious crap is what it is.. I think I'm going to solder mine.. screw these butt connectors.. lol
