hey guys, been a while since i posted in this section. i guess thats the nice thing about not havin a SHO that runs. anyways, i picked up my new 89 SHO today and on the way home i noticed a bad squeek. its coming from the left rear strut area. i have seen this squeak discussed here before but i couldnt find the topic via the search link. it is kinda a sqeak-clunk sound depending on the sevarity of the bump. under normal smooth driving the car is sound but this noise is gettin annoying. anyone have any suggestions or diagnosis?? how would i go about fixin this??

thanx a ton

Grab a can of spray white lithium grease.

Spray the sway bar to body bushings, the end link bushings, the tension strut bushings, etc.

If you hit the one that was making the noise, the noise will go away for awhile.

You will eventually find the exact cause if you only lubricate a small number of bushings at a time.

yeah that spray should help the unibody just flexs what causes it. front + rear strut tower bars would take that squeak away. but the clunk that could be a shot strut have someone follow you while you drive down a bumpier road and see if they see the tire act like a bouncy ball.

Is the strut leaking? They'll "thunk" when they run out of juice...

Do they all appear to be original?

Hey, I'm having the same problem on my '89. Just like you say,... squeaking/creaking over the small stuff, but major thunk on the real bumps. The strut feels firm, but I think the mount is shot. More of an annoyance than anything else.

The Bolt on the top of the strut could have came loose... this happen to me after i replaced my springs. I changed my springs and drove home from my buddies shop and half way home the slowly started to squeek and clunk over bumps, i actually still havn't fixed it due to the bolts being rusted on pretty tight. doh i tried everything to get them tight with out having to take them out again... so that could be your problem...
