Anyone know of a good constant power wire to use for the aftermarket head unit? Also having trouble with illumination wire for the head unit. ANyone have this already?

Install in the ashtray area. I want to use the cigarette lighter power wire for an accessory plug add on.

Hey LuigiSHO,
I installed an aftermarket accessory add-on under my dash/console area. Basically its another cig lighter plug in, but hidden and the ability to use the cig lighter is there for other devices. I have my Sirius radio plugged into so when I mount the radio part to the base on the dash it powers right up. I don't have any pics but IIRC, I tapped into the cig lighter wiring and then bolted down the bracket so its not dangling. If ya need some pics or some help on it let me know. My Lightning is done from its weekend upgrades so I can move it out the garage if need be. And I worked in a cool 72 degree garage all weekend bro. Always willing to lend a hand bud.

Thanks. I might take you up on that. Pics would be helpful. I worked in the almost 100* outdoors. Helps keep the weight down. I am worried about overwhelming the one wire running the stereo off it and using accessories (ipod, phone charger, etc.)from the same. Is that rational or am I employing a healthy dose of paranoia? I may have someone else driving this car when I'm done and I'm concerned about an electrical fire half way to Suffolk. :) I was hoping there was a good ignition system hot wire or something with consistent voltage that was available and easy to find.

As long as you don't have 50 items working the same plug all at the same time it should be fine. I have a radar detector wired to the fuse panel and then just the Sirius radio hook up below. Most of the items with cords have a small amp fuse in them anyway just in case something were to short out. Worst case scenario we could run a wire thru the firewall grommet and hook up straight to the battery, with an line fuse for piece of mind too. There are several grounds to choose from down there near the console area also.

I already have a wire that will hook to an aftermarket amp running through that hole. I was looking for the grommet and noticed it wasn't there and could see daylight from the floor through the firewall. I want to get the headunit working first and then go hook up the amp. I ran most of the wiring to the trunk yesterday. I am hoping to get some sound soon. Just using the radio is making me nuts.

I ran some 12 ga wire from a relay that was triggered by the ignition switch. This ran anything I wanted power from inside.
