Hey guys. I looked around for the install kit to make the cd player sit flush and had no luck. I found one for up to the 89 Taurus's, but nothign for my 91. I go the radio installed and everything works fine except there is a bit of an engine whine coming through the speakers which I believe to be a bad ground. It is just sitting there in the stock location and is not secured at all. Any ideas?

if all you replaced was the head unit there's a 95% chance the whine is a bad ground, and 5% chance its a bad connection. as for the other bit you're looking for, IIRC, when i had a head unit in my 89, it fit fine without a dash kit, same in my current 95, is the 91 different somehow?

Do you have the metal sleeve that slides into the DIN slot? It has tabs that are pressed out to "hold onto" the car, and then the new HU slides into the metal sleeve and locks into place.

The metal sleeve comes with almost any new HU...no install kit needed.

I would go with bad ground also. Either that or really really crappy HU. :nut:

all i'm using on my 95 is the metal cage that the HU comes with, make that really secure to the front plate (it looks like just plastic but its backed by metal in my 95) and my HU is nice and snug. sorry i can't be of more help.

Sounds like you didn't get all the pieces for your HU. Is this an eBay purchase without all the parts? There are some places you can order these things from. I got a trim ring and wiring harness for an ooooold Pioneer about three years ago. I think I ordered from the same place that fixes Ultimate Electronics' HUs.

Crap you guys are right. The head unit is actually from my 300zx which I had to remove the metal cage to install it in there! It's a decent JVC so it's definately the ground. Well time to find a cage. Anyone know if cages are universal?

Yes and no. Most all decks have a different locking design, but you can use one from another radio till you get the correct one. A different sleeve and keep it in place and if you find if slids in and out too easy you can put a couple wraps of electricle tape around the deck to fill the gap, slid the deck in the sleeve. You may have to use a tad bit of force but it will stay till you can get the correct sleeve.

I had to do that on my alpine I bought off of EBay cause the locks were missing from the deck that go out and lock the deck in the sleeve.
