Hi, I just bought a '94 MTX that has the JBL system, the only downside is that it doesn't come with a Cd player or changer.

Can I wire in an aftermarket CD/radio and still keep the sub? What about the addition of just a CD changer complementing the stock cassette deck?

Lastly, could our cars be ordered with a stock CD player? if yes, would I find the correct wiring (sockets/connectors) hiding somewhere?

Toooooo many questions at once. headbang

Just kidding. There are a few different roads to take. Yes you can add a cd player under your factory radio. There is only one plug needed that goes from the radio to the CD player. the ground plugs are already in your car. Now a place to get it ......... Best bet, Ebay.

Now lets say your kinda lazy like me and want something that will hold more than one CD. Ahh haa, You can add a 6,10, or 12 CD changer that transmitts through your factory radio by means of "RF". RF Changers sends the CD signal (sound) through a set station (88.1) so you can hear it.

The best thing about a CD changer that has a RF Module is that you can take it with you and install it in any car. I say its the best bang for the buck. If you need any more info just ask. thumb

With an RF module are you able to get 20 hz to 20 k hz?
bwahahahahahahaha, oh, sorry
Unfortunately no. It's just like a radio. Since it's transmitted through the tuner you get significant signal loss. You can get a decent Pioneer radio (make sure it's got a P in the model name) and get a Pioneer IP-Bus interface CD changer. That way you don't have an extra control on your dash and everything interfaces through the head unit, CD quality even.

*disclaimer* I only used Pioneer as an example because I know they make good stuff and are reasonably priced. Sony makes a direct link unit but it's harder to install and is of a lesser quality. Kenwood quit making their good CD changers unless it's got eXcelon stamped on it and Alpine's VERY expensive. $300 for the changer alone, but it plays MP3s

Just some info

I have used a Pioneer FM modulated CD changer before. It worked surprisingly well. Also there are two connections for the factory CD player, not one. One for the signal that goes from the CD player to the tape deck and a second one that is for power to the CD player. If your car did not come with a CD player from the factory usually it does not have the power connection. Its easy to fab up though, if you go that route contact me and I can give you easy instructions on what to get to make that connector.

You might be able to find the original Ford Changer w/ RF modulator. Then everything just plugs in to the tape deck without any extra wires. Problem is finding one....

I threw an aftermarket cd head unit in. A JVC w/ 35 watts per channel. I had to turn the bass and treble WAY down to not overpower the amps, at the lowest volume setting it's still kinda loud. I kept the subs, speakers, and amps stock. Doesn't sound too bad.

PS- if anyone knows where I can get the RF modulator from the original Ford 10disc changer, please let me know!! My changer doesn't work.. :

You know you can BY-Pass your amps right ?? I'm a dealer for JVC and the head unit should be able to power those speakers quite nicely. Also ... whats the model #. JVC made a J-Link connector that they still use today for thier own changer. There is another company (Blitz) out there that makes a intergration harness that will power up the factory CD changer with a aftermarket head.

RickieFrat - Do you sell the adapter that works with the redundant radio controls on the dash?? I have a pioneer head unit and I would like to use my dash controls.
Thanks

Yes, but after I tried with the amps, it sounded ok, so I didn't feel like messing around too much.

But I'd still need an RF modulator, right??
-The changer and control powerup, it seems to spin the cd and the laser comes on, but the sound doesn't get to the radio. :(

I won't have any money for a while anyway...
Thanx for the help.

If you are going JVC Headunit (providing you have changer controls on the head unit) to JVC Changer .... You don't need a RF Modulator. The pin connector should be the same and all you need is a patch cord from JVC.

But if your going JVC head unit to Factory changer .... you need a custom cable from Blitz.
