Grandma has been without her van (1994 Aerostar 4.0 2wd) for 2 month and just now tells me. Ran codes and they all lead me to the MAF, or were old stored from when the fuel pump went out and the shop didnt clear them. Replaced with a JY piece, MAF codes again, so this one seems to be shit too.

Currently I have the following KOEO

157- Mass Air Flow signal is/was low or grounded - MAF

185- Mass Air (MAF) output lower than expected - Fuel control

186- Injector pulse width longer than expected or Mass Air Flow (MAF) lower than expected - Fuel control

Every time I have ran KOER I get 111- System checks OK.

What else should I check that might effect the MAF reading/signals?

"without" meaning it won't run? Or "without" meaning it's been in the shop for a drivability problem?

A bad maf can make the car run like crap, but it'll run. And you can diagnose the problem immediately by unplugging the maf and driving the car. Whatever hiccups that were being caused by the maf will be gone; fuel economy will be poor and it might idle a bit funny but the car will run out fine with no maf hooked up.

Without as in not operable. Would die and sputter like a ratard. Go it to the point it only sputters under heavy acceleration, around 32-35 mph at/after the shift.

Well, it could be the maf pigtail... didnt think much about that. try wiggling it while running and see if things change.

That was the original problem. My grandpa's "mechanic" never ran the codes so he never thought to check it. I am wondering if in the connector or farther down the wires there is an issue.

I just ran it without the MAF plugged in to make sure it would. Really dont want to set my Grandma up to be stranded. Plugged it back in and ran it again. No hesitation/sputters like before. Didnt run the codes again, I know they are still there though.

Going to have her drive it a few days, see if any issue comes back. Told her to unplug it if she does have issue and cannot make it home. If they do come back we are going to try a NEW MAF but I hope she can just save the $80 itll cost her.
