Looks like the auto adjuster on my 91 isn't working like it should. I barely lift on the pedal and it's engaging which cost me a worn out clutch. Any one have and tips for pulling it and what to look for?

you have to manually adjust the clutch cable. you pull upwards on the clutch pedal, and if it has slack you will hear the ratchet mechanism click.

I will try that tonight but I think I did play with it Sunday and I couldn't get the pedal feel to change. I did hear and watch the clicking motion.

Just checked the pedal and its not ratcheting at all. Now the fun begins with removal of the pedal.

Broken clutch cable

My clutch cable broke on me while driving recently ... had to start the car with it in gear many times... turning it off at stop lights. Got a new cable but having problems installing it into the clutch pedal assembly.
The Chiltons manual states that a cable guard is to be loosened... but I can't see or feel any nuts or bolts to turn... Any thoughts..hints.. tips. Thanks.

there is a cover that you need to remove to get to stuff. it has 2 or 3 screws/bolts in it, and they are on the top so they are hard to get to. budget some $$ for a chiropractor visit after you are done laying on your back twisted under the dash...

success

It took me longer to write this (crappy computer) than to do this procedure.

Fully charged battery.

Engage parking brake.

Remove driver's seat..place on to back seat.

Disconnect battery.

Shine lights on clutch pedal adjuster ass.

Lay on back.

Fuse panel can be tilted to ease with this ordeal.

Remove shield... a pair of 8 mm. screws mounted on the side of the shield.
NOTE when on YOUR BACK the screws are to be removed from the left side of the shield. Look for a pair of protruding screws on the right side of the shield to get an idea to where to place the socket

By pulling up on the clutch pedal it releases the "hold" on the adjuster, allowing it to spring towards your head or to be push up to it's furthest most upwardly position.

Pull up on pedal...push on adjuster with a screwdriver.. let the pedal recede about an inch ..(idea is to not let the "hold" to release)

Place end of cable into adjuster

Place other end of cable onto transmission "arm"

Pull up on pedal & step on it a few times... repeat ... again

Viola there it is.

If your **** you can replace the shield.

Slap the rest of the s**t back on.

BTW got mine at brand "P" autoparts store for $20... LUK brand made in Italy.
