Added 5 qts. oil and it's still over 1/2 qt. Low

Could there even be a possible explanation for this? Fl-400s filter

The dry fill specification is 6.0 quarts, so if you let it drain a really long time, I suppose it's possible it could be a bit low after a 5 quart fill.

Show us your dipstick.
Any chance it has been changed?
Put a file mark on the dipstick you have and use this from now on.

Could this be something to do with imperial versus American quarts, which comes up often here in Canada. That is until we changed it all for liters.
