I'm trying to replace both accessory belts on my 94 MTX, but I think I must've skipped a step or done something wrong because I'm having a really tough time getting the new belts on the tensioner pulley(s) (I've got the PS/WP belt routed around everything else, and I pulled the Alt/AC belt out so it wasn't getting in the way since I couldn't get it on either). I bought the gatorback belts, not sure if that would matter. Can someone write me (or link meto) a step by step guide as to what I should do to replace the belts? Any tips or tricks to leveraging the belt onto the last pulley maybe?

Thanks for any advice, normally I'd continue messing around with the belts, but it's pretty cold out so I figured I'd ask shoforum before I froze any more.

leveraging not required

Loosen the bolt/shaft holding each pulley in place. Then move each pulley up/down as needed by turning the adjusting screw located on the block side of each pulley. :)

Cool, I have the pulley nut loosened but I guess I haven't turned the adjusting screw enough, it's a ways back there for the PS/WP belt. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Well, I got the screw turned till the PS/WP pulley was about half way down, then it stopped moving. I sprayed some WD40 on it (someone had broken the spray top off my can of PB blaster and it's tough to get the whole bottle down there). Then I proceeded to strip out the head of the adjusting screw. Guess it was pretty hard to turn after all.

And the belt still doesn't fit on.

The 94-95 MTX models have a problem with the alternator belt called out in the catalogs... Every belt manufacturer is cataloging the wrong belt for this application. The belt they catalog can be installed (barely) but the tensioner can easily rub the battery. Here's a link to a good discussion of this problem...

Well, looks like I get to take the alt belt back now. At least now it shouldn't add any additional time to getting this thing up an running again since I need to work something out for the ps/wp tensioner first anyways. Thanks for the info, think I'll need a 45.0 or 45.5 for the alt?
