hi all,
my ac was working fine until a couple of days ago. i think the compressor is working because i see a rpm drop when i turn it on. the day before it stopped i heard a funny clunking sound in the dash before i got cool air, but i doesn't do that now. hot air coming out the vents. i would like to know what the possibilities are before i take it to a garage and maybe get some parts beforehand at rockauto. TIA

Sounds like the Blend Door Actuator needs to be replaced.

i went to shotimes and got the directions to run the self diagnostic test on the ac head unit and no faults were found (no code 02 for the blend door) and the compressor is kicking off and on so i assume i must have lost freon? don't our cars use R12 so i guess it will be converted to R134? TIA

If yours is a 94, it should have R134a. You can buy a gauge at Wal-Mart and check the system to see if it's lost any pressure; if not (and the compressor still kicks on), then you know it's probably the BDA.

i had a friend at work who is licensed for ac work do a pressure check and i had 70 lbs with the compressor running which he said was good but, when i shut the ac off the pressure only climbed to 78 lbs and he said normally it should climb to about 140? also the the input and return lines to the condensor was warm? i found a new motorcraft blend door actuator on fleabay for $30 shipped. he has 4 more if anybody is interested. the stealership wanted $100 for the BDA and $700 to install! TIA
