When I brake at slow speeds the abs kicks in for no reason, so I'm thinking its the ABS ring. The steering wheel with no hands on it, goes to the left when the abs kicks in.

I should inspect the passenger side first?

I'm thinking the driver front is locking and the passenger side is releasing.

The ABS sensor detects a difference in wheel turning speed. A crack in the ABS ring, at any wheel, would change the circumference around the ring and make the ABS think the wheel speed is different, thereby activating the ABS.

However, a sticking wheel caliper and brake could also cause a change in the speed of one wheel enough to trigger the ABS.

Check your ABS rings and your brakes. Check the slider pins also, as they are known to stick due to corrosion. If your disk pads are worn at an angle it usually indicates a piston cocked in the bore of the caliper, and sticking.

A dry front wheel bearing can also affect wheel speed at slow speeds.
Just some thoughts. rangerj

I had the same problem. My front pasenger side ring was cracked. Replaced it, but, in the process I think I screwed up that side's sensor. Now I get a momentary pulse from the ABS system at about 1 mph as I am stopping.
