Is there any concievable way of doing this without dropping the subframe or removing bodywork for someone who doesn't havy dainty 9-year-old girlie hands?

1. Buy a set of reversible ratcheting wrenches.

Get the battery tray and bracket out of the way (the ratcheting wrenches will make the bracket removal slightly less likely to cause you to go over the edge to homicidal). You possibly need to remove the upper radiator hose too. (It's been a while since I tried one of these with the motor in the car.)

The assembly is "mounted" on rubber isolators, so you should be able to pull the thing free once you loosen the 3 nuts. You can bend the brake lines a little as long as their not rotted and likely to break or kink.

Personally, I can have the drivetrain out of the car in 90 minutes and I would probably do it that way if I ever had to do another one...

Good luck!

So you're saying it'd be easier to yank the whole damn ABS chunk rather than unscrewing the module from it?

No, I think he is saying he would pull the whole damn engine before removing the module. lol

My module will be in early next week. SuperHo when are you going to attempt this?

Yes it is and you will probably need to replace the whole thing anyway when you break the bolts trying to take it apart.

To remove the whole module.

Disconnect 4 brake lines going out.

Disconnect two from the MC and bend up so as not to drain the MC.

Disconnect small ground wire.

Take three bolts with the cone rubber isolators off and you're done. Taking it out anyway.

I removed an ABS module in the junkyard in about a hour with hand tools (ratchet wrenches) there was lots of cussing and blood involved. I also cut the brake lines, one of the reasons for the blood. :)
