Ive been reading all these threads about the GM Syncromesh. It seems like a magic wonder.

However, I have also read that early trans' have paper lined syncros. I have an '89 and normally I would assume that it would have the paper lined syncros but it has been rebuilt once already (PO had it rebuilt)

so is there ANY way (short of tearing the thing down) to determine if I have the paper lined syncro's?

Id like to try the GM syncromesh, but Ive read that it will actually do more harm than good with the paper lined syncros

thanks thumb

If it was rebuilt after 1991 then it should have the newer style synchros. But there is no way to tell for sure without opening up the case.

I replaced the blocking rings in my transaxle at the beginning of March and the new ones were "paper" lined in gears 1-4. The 5th gear blocking ring was all brass.
