About how much is window tinting?

I just got a 94 SHO and I want to tint the windows. I don't want to do it myself, so about how much would it cost to take it to a shop and get the 6 side windows and the rear window tinted? Also, wat is the legal limit, I thought it was 35% but I'm not sure. Thanks

Count on spending anywhere from $120-$180 depending on what shop you go to. As for the legal limit, that varies greatly from state to state, however it's not always strictly enforced. To find out call the local cop shop and they can tell ya.

I am not positive on the legal limit but from what I understand it is 35% for the driver and passenger front windows and there is no limit on the back ones. But if you look at this and consider how the car would look it isnt pretty if you change the % too much. On my car I have 20% all the way around and it looks awesome and I have never had a problem with the police, another thing you need to consider when picking a % to tint is, the lighter the interior color the lighter the inside of the car will look with tint. So dark interior on a car with 35% tint might look just as dark as a car with mocha interior and 20% tint. As far as the price is concerned....what you get is what you pay for. Just make sure you tell the shop to make sure that they dont 2-piece your back window. Also what state are you from caleb690 I know a very good place in the Cleveland, Ohio area that you could go to if you are close.

somewhere on SHOFORUM.com there was a post about legal tint levels, and I thought that someone dropped www.gila.com or gilafilms.com if you search a little bit they have the state statutes concerning window film, percentage, and what windows you CAN tint..

I've always paid $200 for tinting. Check with your state laws before tinting. I know its a $100 ticket around here for every cite.

i paid 150 w/ a brow on my 94 just before christmas.

each state has different max tint levels. colorado is 28% if u happen to live there.

if you dont tint the front driver and passenger side windows you can do whatever u want to the other windows. you can spraypaint them black if u want as long as the front stay factory-level tinted (which is 70% i think)

also, tinting is done by how much light passes thru the windows, so a lower number means less light goes thru. i dont know if u knew that or not but wanted to make sure.

Has anyone done it yourself? I would rather do it myself and save some cash, I'm not worried about getting a professional job done. Where can you buy do-it-yourself kits at?

You should be able to buy it at most part stores. If you have never done it before, be prepared for alot of air pockets.

if you want to go dark, then get a doctors note saying you are sensitive to light, and you can submit that to the state for a waiver, letting you use deep tint. I'm getting it so I can run what Edien is running on his, legally.

How strictly do they enforce that law? I want to go to 15% but the legal limit is 25% here in Ohio.Do you think I would be alright with that?

Where in Ohio are you from? Legal limit in Ohio is 50% light transmission, not 25%. Don't do it yourself, if you aren't a professional it's tough to do without some real practice. It would more than likely end up all bubbly and people will think you have Wal-Mart tint. Is your SHO MTX or ATX??

in ohio it is 50%, i was hassled alot when i had 15% on my front windows, now i have 35% and have not had any trouble. so if you go below 20% beprepaired to have it replaced or to pay tickets.

also if you are any where near the cleveland area i know a guy that does a great job, and is alot cheaper then taking it to any shop to have it done.

I agree with the comment about going below 20%, that is when you will get hassled. Its like any other law, its up to the descretion of the individual officer. Some are pickier than others.

92Blackmtx, could you e-mail the guy you are referring to? I want to redo the tint on the GN, and was also thinking about doing the wifes' Sho. Thanks.

I tinted myself for about $40, just took a little time, but it turned out good....If its your first time, your gonna suck at it, it takes a few times to get ok-good at it.
