I hope you bought it through a local dealer with a lifetime replacement warranty. That is the first premature failure I have heard of on the A1 Cardone remanufactured units. How unfortunate for you. I'm sorry that you had to be the first. My pump is up to 40,000 miles and hopefully won't start to leak until shortly before the next timing belt change if ever. :)

Yeah, unfortunately Ryan, it's been known to happen. There is always a slightly greater risk of failure with a reman pump than with a new pump, but for what reason I'm not entirely sure. HOWEVER, I look at it this way... When I did my 60k I got my water pump for $42 with a two year unlimited warranty. The only other pumps I could find were new pumps through Autozone and Advance Auto, both of which were near $200. Choices, choices, choices...personally, I think I made the better one, but I know some people who wouldn't touch reman parts with a 10 foot pole. I'd be annoyed too, if I were in your situation, but hopefully you saved enough cash buying it that it will make it worth it anyway.

Well i got it from Rockauto.com. I emailed them about it ill see what they say tomarow. I see no reason why they would not grant the factory warrentee. so we will see. But i just dont want to replace that thing agian.... ack!!!!

I wonder what happend to it? bearing failure ?

Ryan,

How tight did you make the belt? I once snapped the waterpump shaft right off on my old supra. Put the fan right through my rad! Since then, I been runnin' 'em as loose as I can get away with.

When I put the new wp (cardone also) on, I left the belts kinda loose. It did ofcourse sing to me when I started it up. I then tightened it a little at a time till it shut da **** up. I gotta do the same to with the ps belt. It will sing once in a great while too.

Now that I think about it, it was the alt/ac belt that I tightened. The ps/wp belt is still a bit loose, but, an occasional howl from it beats the heck out of early failure due to bearing bake.

I use the Cardones from RockAuto too, unless a customer pays the differential for a new Ford unit (about $150 with the MTX).

I had one customer who was concerned about the pump, but hasn't scheduled an appointment to replace it yet.

RockAuto will most likely honor the warranty, so long as it's still in the warranty period.

Best of luck.

My friend's dad works at Cardone (here in Philly) and I've never known them to have shoddy products. When I had to do my rear brakes in June (thought it was the slider pins and it ended up being frozen calipers), I went with the rebuilt Cardone calipers and they've been great. And yeah, they have pretty good warranties on their products so hopefully that shouldn't be a problem. It just sucks that you'll have to do the installation process all over again. (At least you have the know-how to do it yourself instead of paying several hundred bucks to have it done, though! :) ) Anyway, good luck with it and keep us posted. (I'm at 131k on the stock water pump on my 95 MTX and I know it's only a matter of time. :( )

I have two, yes two cardone pumps go bad. I just returned one last week under warranty to Rock auto. The folks there have been great. I purchased a NEW replacement for $105.- they credited me for $ 65.- for the Cardone. I thought it was my cross over pipe and could not believe it was the pump leaking a second time. By the way I made sure to pressurize the cooling system before I reassembled the timing belt, just to be sure the pump and my workmanship was good. You can rent a pressure gage from Autozone. I have put on 450 miles and no leaks and no foul smells.
Good Luck, Mike

Don't tell me this is my problems too?! I replaced my water pump with rebuilt Cardone too while doing a 100K on my ATX just couple months ago and I've been hearing the humming sound and was wondering where it's coming from.

I replaced perfectly good factory water pump with this 'cause many have said it's good to change this while doing a timing belt change but now it looks like it may have backfired on me. Shit!

You know what ????
Thats what i was thinking..... DOH!! the factory one was doing fine with no leaks.... but then again i could of put it all back together again and it would leak 4000 miles after lol. even though this happend i still think its a good idea to replace it at 100,000.

To find out if its the water pump, use a metal rod and put it on the water pump, then listen to the other end of the rod. you will know becuse it will be loud. Oh and be carfull wink

The two Cardone pumps I installed and failed in service was from leakage from the weep hole. No Noise was being emmitted. The first Cardone pump that I installed was to replace a good pump while doing my timing belt and cps. The cps was shot due to a leak from my cross over pipe and timing belt was overdue for replacement. I installed a Cardone pump which started leaking from the weep hole in 5-6 months, changed it a second time with a cardone pump and started leaqking within a few months. Just installed a new pump. So far OK. MIke

Petes got the answer, Its easy to crank on that ajuster screw til' you can hear the belts stretch. Fun fact:Serpintine belts shrink when they warm.
