OK, I've seen many of the posts about how to tell if I have a "true" plus...BUT, if this was an option code, is there a sticker or something on the car other than the visual items that will tell me if I have a plus or a clone? If this isn't the real thing, I'm going to be ******. I bought the car from an ad I saw on the SHO trader here. I hope the guy didn't screw me!!!

What Color is it? If it is green, it is a plus. Green was Plus only. Plastic hood, Spoilor, Black B-pillar, Body colored trim on Ground effects. Those are the items in the plus package. There may be more. Sometimes cars did not recieve all this depending on supplies. Some non-plus cars recieved certain parts due to what was in Ford's parts bins at the time of build.

I think the option was code 211. I'm not sure though. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

I think SHO Plus had metal 24 valve DOHC badges where the other models had plastic. Color matched side mirrors, fiberglass hood w/ small power buldge.

People listen to JT there was no option for a hood on a plus. Look at the original brochure's, do you see a hood mentioned anywhere on their? No! For what ever reason some 91's got buldge hoods, some were plus some weren't.

All Plus "options" can be easily faked.

Some of the harder ones to fake are:

1,The black pillars were a decal, not paint.

2,The deep emerald green was a plus only option. Though any car can be re-painted, There is always telltale evidence of a re-paint. The engine bay is a good place to look.

3, the Plus mirrors are actually different than the GEN one mirrors. They are the GEN2 style mirrors painted a satin black vs the two piece GEN1 mirrors and may even be tinted blue.

4, the window trim had a small stainless strip in it, regular SHO's were all black. They match the mirror bezel, which is different than regular SHO *see #3. Though it would be easy to buy GEN2 Mirrors and paint them black, the window trim is a little harder to install and most wouldn't take the time to swap them, thus leaving a gap in the mirror bezel.

5, "Taurus" emblem in back is body colored. Though easy enough to paint regular chrome ones, the PLUS ones are all plastic with no vacumn metalizing.

6, I'm not sure if all 91's got them, but the PLUS got the amber turn signal in the rear opposed to an all red lamp on previous models.

7, A plastic hood and spoiler can easily be added.

The Plus mirrors I have here are matte black Gen I mirrors that look nothing like my Gen II mirrors. Is this a fluke?

I dunno, I may be wrong but I have only ever seen one PLUS up close and it was a green one. It definitely had GEN2 style mirrors on it and I doubt they were added later because the guy had no clue what he had and his father had bought the plus new.

Actually, if SHOtimes says that the plastic hood was part of the 211A (Plus) package, then they are wrong. The plastic hood was found on a few 90's and a fair amount of 91's.

The plus package consisted of the following:
- Body colored trim (Including GFX trim and "Taurus" Logo)
- Black side view mirrors
- Chrome trim around the windows
- Spoiler
- Metal 24V badges (all other years were plastic/ other 91's had no badges at all)

I could be missing some stuff...

Additionally, I'm pretty sure all Plusses received a moonroof and rod shifter, although those options certainly weren't limited to the plus.

The chrome trim around the side windows cannot be easily faked. I'm not talking about the two bottom pieces along the bottom of the glass, those are easy. I'm referring to the trim that goes around the tops of the door windows. That trim is riveted in and is a PITA to remove. I don't think the rear door trim will even come out unless you first remove the windows. You would also have to replace the rear quarter windows as the trim is integral to the window. Also very difficult.

I doub't you'll ever see anyone go to the trouble of swapping out that trim and windows to fake a plus.

Lets take a second to clarify about the plus hood. First off, it was not an option. It was a feature. There is a difference. An option is a multiple choice. A feature is a benefit, with no choice about it.

The power bulge hood was a feature for plus cars only, as were the black mirrors and 24v badges, rear spoiler, etc.

HOWEVER, Ford quality control being what it was, read - crap, there were many 91 "non-plus" cars that recieved the bulge hood anyway.
