The ECC was working great then just decided to do everything except blow some heat. I did the dianostic and got a 024 code. on the ECC. Took it in to the dealer and was suprised when the estimate came back at $1000.00. A small motor that opens the heat door. Dash has to come out. Has anyone had this problem. Any suggestions.

The Garage.
This is not too uncommon on SHO's. It has been more likely to happend to a car with less milage than a 50k '98 though. Yes, the dash does have to come out. You can elect to do it yourself of just fit the bill (dealer or other).

You may want to contact the Colorado SHO Club and get an opinion from them.

Have not had that prob on the SHO, but do on the Vic. Blend door sticks or it's motor is getting weak, Vic's EATC diagnostic shows code 24. Try pushing buttons and cycling between AC/heat/floor/defrost/etc/off for a while and see if you can get the door to break loose before you spend all that money at the dealer. If it keeps happening you'll probably need the new blend door actuator motor.

Depending where the door is on the SHO (and I don't know) other info from CrownVic.net (search on blend door):
"Someone else I know with a '91 Town Car that visits our store frequently said that he was able to get his girlfriend, with her skinny little arm, to reach in through the center-right vent (after plucking out the vent deflectors) and push the door either open or closed, depending on if he wanted hot or cold air. "

(while looking for more info on my Vic problem...) Not much info posted on blend door specific to Taurus except complaints about the $1000+ expense to repair. But flatratetech.com posts say it's usually the actuator and not the door itself. I hope my SHO doesn't decide to act up now. Taurus setup looks more complicated and inaccesssible than Vic, with some door motors vacuum and actuator electric? Whatta pain. There's an actuator ghetto fix here for trucks, maybe all Fords use the same part? http://www.blenddoorfix.netfirms.com/

flatratetech.com folks could probably tell you any shortcuts. Good luck!
