Alright, I have a JBL BP1200.1 thats rated to supply around 1200 watts rms...I have 2 - 12" cerwin vega, vega series subs. (I just blew one, and the wire to the cone keeps breaking off of the other)

I want to stay with 12" (round or square) so I can use my current box. I have been looking into the Kicker solobaric 12" square subs (L5 and L7's, are the L7's that much better than the L5's?), cerwin vega 12" stroker's (kinda weigh a lot and look old school, but dont doubt that pound tha ******* out of anything), and audiobahn subs.

I want the subs to be able to handle the power, but not too overboard. (trying to conserve $$)

What are your reccommendations? I have plenty of power (new alternator and 2 batteries, one under hood and one in trunk for audio setup's), I just need some clear, hard hitting, can handle-the-power subs.

TIA :thumb:

Oh, I listen to all types of music...and I have a 4 cubic foot box.

Well i have a friend who has the Kicker subs but they are not the square ones. For 10s they hit pretty good. I do like MTX subs as well.

I like memphis, good for the money, hey check out PPI flat piston 12's. I have a friend who has two of em and was hitting 156ish dec.!!! He is up to 4 now, and they are extreme!! But I think they are almost 500.00 a piece. Here is a link, these are monsters!!!!!! http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18803&item=5716031839&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Also, go to a place and buy em, get the three year warranty, sounds like you will need em. also, speak with a custom shop about what you have, what it can handle, and what you need, ohms, ect. ect. so you can maximize your amp, and get speakers that can handle what your amp puts out, also, ask em about what wiring configuration you want to use ie. bridged, parrallel, series, find out what would be best for your subs. Is your encloser seperated between subs? If you have just two, they need to have seperate air spaces, if one speaker goes out, it can dramatically effect output. Look into JL audio also, they are good. Like I said, I like memphis, good speaker, and cheap. good luck bro!!!! Let us know what you decided on! Oh and pics man, gotta have the pics!!!

EDIT: strokers oldschool? Man the reason they have the pole coming through the top is for more cone travel, ****, those things are awesome!!! Oh and check out Vegas also!!, forgot them, they are good~!

If you want inexpensive bang for the buck, try a company called ZEUS Subs.
I had 4 10's that I custom mounted on my 95' SHO. I had 1500 watts running thru them with a home-made cross over. Excellent low range, deep base with almost no distortion ( except at around 90% volume).
The whole sub/ crossover package cost me about $390.
***4 subs, fuses, show wires, plywood and matching carpeting to make custom trunk mount, and parts to make low range crossover (I wanted to take out all the vocals and leave only pure BASS) so I did not rely on the amps built in cross over. :thumb:

Yamaha, I had the subs in the wrong box when the wires first pulled off. Since I have build the correct box, I have tried re-soldering and a few other things to get those wires to stay on, and I cant get them to stay on. I believe the 1 wire fell off, causing the other sub to throw too far (yea, I dont have separate chambers for each sub). Now I cant even push the woofer cone in and out on one...the other is fine, but wire came unhooked.

I think I am leaning towards the kicker solobaric's...just cant decide if the extra $$ for the L7's are worth it over the L5's. Everyone always rants and raves about "those square subs" and I have heard a few in the past....

Some of the other brands cant handle enough powa (zeus being that I dont want to have more than 2 subs in me trunk, :thumb:), or they are a bit out of my price range(PPI, strokers).

Any huge differences between L5 and L7 besides L7 handles a bit more power?

Im gonna put another Stroker in my 92 SHO if i keep it.

I had a stroker 15d2 (151.2db with 2krms)in my 95 sho among other subs.
Strokers are amazing. The comment about the Needle on the Stroker being for extra throw thats wrong. The reason its there is you can change the resonant frequency of the sub by loosing the allen screw and turning the needle.

I and 4 Vegas series 12's at one time and blew 2 of them. I also have 1 vegas series 10 in my merkur and it does the job.

Kickers are sweet the L7's are cool. PPI Flat pistons if you can find any are right up there with the strokers.

Just a heads up you can't put a stroker in the same box as a Vega series not enough air space.

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions...I really do appreciate it!. Its much nicer getting user feedback rather than reading some kids comments online about how "these subs hit hard!!"...that doesnt help me at all.

Great advice as always...and in case your wondering, I think I'm going with the Kicker Solobaric L5's (2 - 12"). According to their site, they can handle the power and will fit great in the box I have now... :thumb:

Fosgate has a sub that is awesome for spl.
I know everyone says fosgate is so played out. There is a shop here in town that has a mock up of the inside of a car.You sit in this thing just like a car.
They have one 10" HX2 power in that thing. It is UNREAL,it will just about make you sick.
That amp you have was really popular a few years ago.It was the most bang for your buck.I've been out of the car audio for a while now,so I don't know what the trends are now.

I have to agree. I have a single Fosgate 10 in my 93. Fosgate 201 pushing it and it hits too hard. I get alot of compliments because it is very tight and clean. (That's the way I like just about everything :D)

Fosgate is played out because it's quality stuff. In the end, go with what you like!

I used to install RF and it can be loud, **** i can make 2 Delco 6X9's loud. I put 4 Power 15's in a ****** with 4 viper 1000's it was insane.. But One stroker 15D2 can be louder than 4 Power 15's.

i got L7s

In my SHO im running a HiFonics 1500d amp powering 2 2003 12inch Kicker L7s in a sealed box. I think they hit hard and are clean sounding. But i think they can get much louder and cleaner with a better box. I heard a single L7 in a ported box pound the crap out of a display room, and it was damn clean too, it was using a 1000 watt Memphis amp set on low gain. I'd think as long as you get the right box for them you will be happy.

Before i got the L7s i was looking at the Audiobahn subs. the excursion series i was looking at seem pretty damn beefy, are rated for even higher power handling than the L7s and are the same price if not cheaper too. Ive heard many mixed things about Audiobahn stuff, I havent heard their subs in real life, but i have used one of their amps, and it was good quality, especially for the cost.

But if you decide with the L5s, i think you will not be dissapointed.

 What you say may be correct, I have never heard it anywhere, and the pole piece is for "long excursion" I am not a top paid expert on all this, I only tell what I know, here is an article I found online, it is an explanation about the speakers: http://www.carstereoworld.com/cerwin/cvstroker.html , you may have had them, but did you also know it is for cone movement? I am not saying you are wrong, but I did tell you the facts bro! read for yourself! :thumb:

Am I late for the party?

I am currently running 1 JL Audio 10W6v2 in my 92 MTX on 200W from a Fosgate 5 channel amp. This setup that I have runs about 128 decibels. But I have a buddy of mine who has a JL 15W7 that pushes 142 decibels. Measured them both at Drive-In Autosound in Colorado Springs where I used to work. My opinion would be for you to get you a pair of JL 12W7's on that amp. Do something to separate the chambers for the subs and you will still be slightly over on the cubic feet for the box. And definitely get a tip from an installer about wiring(parallel, series). The JL series has been kickass in my car and it sounds good no matter what I play. Maybe if you are in the Denver region, you can come check it out.

Lovely article (i have it in a frame at home)but no where in there does it state what the Needle is for. I used to be partially sponsered buy CV (brand new Strokers for 100)back when i was majorlly into the Comp aspect of it. Many conversations with CV on the phone and many reps in person. The extened Pole peice"needle" is a way to tune the freq response of the speaker other than the obvious other ways like Box parameters. Thats why theres a allen screw on the peice holding it in that exact location.

The Dual spiders in there layout is what makes the stroker! The "needle" doesn't have anything to do with its ability to move farther . THe needle doesn't even move. Its stationary
