A/C works for 20 mins - then stops

Hey all! It's been a long time since I've been on the SHOforum, but I still have and love my SHO. I just moved from Buffalo,NY to Bakersfield, CA and have really needed AC out here in 110 degree temps.

Lately, the A/C will run very cold for twenty minutes after start up and then completely die after the car gets very hot. After the car sits for an hour and cools down, the A/C will return and will work for about another 20 mins before it kicks off....

Any ideas?

Make sure that the cooling fan is running on high speed when you have the A/C On. Could be a bad pressure switch.

I agree - typical symptom of clutch gap that needs tightened up.

On my car the condensor freezes up after an hour or so. Also the clutch will only engage at idle. Once engaged it works fine but I can't start the a/c while driving.

Mine use to work OK but if I shut it off it would not restart unless the engine speed was at or near idle. This turned out to be the shim.

I just fixed mine this weekend and it works like a pro now.

Broomstick test works wonders.

I believe Mr Anonymous yanked the shim when he swapped in my new engine.

Yours is not the shim. If it's like the Gen 4 was when I purged the A/C the other day, it's got more dye in it than refrigerant. IIRC, your drier was icing up just like the gen 4.
