Gentlemen:

I'm a new SHO owner having some A/C trouble. Searched past posts and could not seem to find this type problem. Perhaps this is familiar to someone here.

Problem Description;
-When A/C is operating at 2500+ RPM a "chirp" noise is heard every 7 seconds.
-Below 2500 RPM "chirp" sound is not heard
-While A/C is turned off "chirp" sound is not heard.
-Engine appears to hesitate slightly when "chirp" sound is heard.
-A fairly loud "squeal" is heard when A/C is turned on at highway speed (5th gear, 65mph)
-Problem seems to be affecting gas mileage (2-3 mpg is lost with use of A/C)

Facts;
-Air blows cold
-Temp control appears to work fine
-Just replaced battery, alternator & belts
-Belt tension has been checked

If this sounds familiar to anyone, please help me!
Hate to start throwing parts at it.

BTW -I love this car!

Thanks in advance,
Tim

I had the SAME exact problem. They replaced my A/C clutch & pullys and I haven't heard it since. It was most likely the pullys....

A/C Clutch

Still the A/C Clutch. A slight hesitation is normal as the drag of the compressor is felt by the engine.

-A fairly loud "squeal" is heard when A/C is turned on at highway speed (5th gear, 65mph)
Replace the belt, don't just tension it.

-Problem seems to be affecting gas mileage (2-3 mpg is lost with use of A/C)
Normal to see a reduction of fuel economy. The air conditioner does require energy.

You can fix all this yourself for under a $100. That includes a new belt, clutch, coil, and hub.

Personally, I would examine the belt for dry rot and replace as necessary. Most likely the A/C clutch and pulley are fine.
