quick question:
i'm going to have my A/C system looked at by a private shop, and i've been told the following will be done:
1. vacuum system, pressurize and monitor pressure degredation
2. if pressure degredation is very minor, recharge and test remaining components (i.e. compressor, etc.)
3. if pressure degredation is minor (not significant), an A/C sealant can be added to seal off leaks

my question is, does anybody know if adding an A/C system sealant is a really bad idea? keep in mind that if i require any major repairs like a new compressor or anything, i'm going to abandon the A/C repair altogether... any input/opinions would be appreciated.

hey if this guy is a real shop, he will know what you mean, ask him to replace the o-rings for the front fittings... my 95 MTX held a charge for 2 weeks, and was gone... replaced the O-rings, ($3.50 at Autozone), and it is holding great.... The fittings only come loose with the right tool, but they should be able to do it. I would avoid the AC sealant if you can, it shouldnt take much to get that running good! You can check the compressor by crossing the switch that triggers it to go on (under the brake/comp/scanner plugings... Cross it with a paperclip and if your compressor powers up, you know you at elast have a good compressor, and need some freon.... GOOD LUCK, dont jump any wires you arent familiar with, or if you arent sure!
GOOD LUCK, let me know what happens with it!
