Hey guys,
Well my 95 MTX hasnt had A/C for about the 4 years that I have owned it. Last week I picked up a compressor because I knew mine was seized. I installed the new compressor and it held vacuum for about 45 minutes when I pulled it down. I charged the system w/ 2lbs of 134a. Now... the a/c cools intermittently. I have a thermometer in the a/c vent to monitor how cold the air is getting. The other day it was cooling 40degrees out of the vents, now its barely getting cold at all. The system has been doing some weird things and this is what has got me stumped. I put the a/c machine on the car to recover and then recharge the a/c just to make sure I had the proper amount of refrigerant in the system which I did. The system started out cycling kind of fast, hitting 150ish on the high side then off, then on back to 150 and over and over. I could feel the high side would get very hot when the compressor was engaged, but the low side like barely got cold at all. Then after a short time of this, then the clutch would stay engaged and not cycle. High side pressure would go to about 150 and low side would go around 40ish iirc. Everything seems to be operating properly, however I am getting no cold air intermittently. Sometimes no cooling, sometimes as low as 40degrees from the vents. The system was inop for atleast 4 years so I dont know if maybe the drier or something may have been exposed but I can't justify this operation to be just that. THe old compressor was seized but when i removed the lines to install the new one there was no metal in the lines. Just when I blew the lines out all I got was clean oil out of them. I was thinking a clogged orifice, but with the way the pressures raise and lower so fast with the cycling of the compressor, it all seems fine. I also just replaced the BDA, so it's working properly. I have done this with the car hot usually. Ambient air temp was around 70. I had a fan blowing across the condenser.

Please give me some ideas, im stumped.

Thanks

With a seized compressor just vacuuming the system isn't sufficient, you need to at least flush it completely and replace the liquid line or splice in a new orifice tube.

My guess is you've got some "black death" gooing up the orifice tube.

Personally, I would have replaced the liquid line and the drier/hose assy and flushed the snot out of the condenser and evaporator.

Yes. Your compressor was seized and you didnt replace the liquid line (contains oriface tube) or the reciever dryer? Bad move. You may have damaged the new compressor already.
