I'm in the process of attempting to rework the A/C on the '97, as there is a leak somewhere, so I am removing the lines to be tested and rebuilt.

Problem is, I have the Accumulator and Compressor Manifold lines removed, but I cannot for the life of me get the firewall side of the liquid line off.

Does anyone know what size Springlok tool I should be using, and are there any other tips for getting this thing loose? I'm almost there!

Thanks! :thankyou:

Try pushing it together rather than pulling apart. That can help free it up so you can get it apart.

Have tried using a bit of **** on the fitting and removal tools. Also had a helper push it back together, but it still persists in being stubborn. I'm wondering if the spring is rusted or something that it won't come apart like the other connections.

Any other thoughts?

Okay - well I officially feel stupid. I took the car into the local DIY garage after putting things back together. It turns out that their A/C tool kit had 3 extra springlok tools that mine didn't have and I hadn't seen at the parts store. One was green and was a 1/2 inch, but it differed from the blue 1/2 inch tool in that the hole for the outlet line size was larger. :nut:

Threw the car on a lift, and instantly wanted to try the green one. It clipped perfectly on the line, pushed in and the line came free. :yoo-hoo: It was easier to maneuver the tools on the lift, but I probably would have been able to manage on the garage floor, too.

So, lesson learned, there are more than 4 springlok tools, and there are some for the same size fitting that have different outlet line sizes. In the process I also did a long overdue swap on a bad front sway bar link. :thumb:

Problem solved, and the lines will go off for rebuilding. The liquid line looks crappy, as I suspected, and it had an o-tube repair kit used at some point with the compression fittings. That is probably where the line is leaking, I suspect. I should have more information in the next few weeks as to getting the A/C back together and working, and a possible source for rebuilt-like-new lines at a decent price.
