I'd suggest taking it to an AC shop where they have the proper tools to charge it. You are supposed to charge the system into a vacuum (or negative pressure) system.

They usually put a "sucker" on it for whats supposed to be an hour, and then charge the system with the vehicle running.

How did you manage to bump the cap off ??? Their is supposed to be a dust cap as well as a threaded schraeder valve underneath. Unless there is a problem with the schraeder, you should not have lost all your freon simply by bumping the dust cap.

the valve is bad i put a cap back on it and if you screw it back off the valve still leaks. so its off to the shop and they said they would evac and replace the valve and recharge the system for $130...there is still alittle bit of freon left in the system...thank you for your help.
