We have a symtom with the '89, the a/c is cycling with the a/c controls OFF. The engine fan is doing the same. My question is, can the a/c be unplugged or bypassed {with a shorter belt}? And can the engine fan be put on a manual switch? Would this mess up something else, throw codes, ect?

Are you saying that all the controls are off. Or you are using other parts of the HVAC dial? If its calling for any kind of defrost it will kick on the a/c to dry to air. Thus the fan will kick on too, as its connected to the a/c circuit. HTH

That might be whats doing, calling the a/c for the defrost. The Gf came back from shopping complaining about a noise it was making, I asked if she had been "pushing the buttons"? Didn't get an answer....Thanx

When we did the idle reset proceedure, I had you "turn on the A/C" and other accessories. I bet it is still on in in some way (like on the defrost setting).

When the A/C kicks on, it also kicks on the radiator fan to help with the needed cooling, but in your case, your A/C system is low on refrigerant so it si just cycling. I can probably fix your A/C pretty easy if you want... or ... you can turn your controls to "vent" and that should turn off the compressor. Or you can disconnect the small electrical connection on the A/C compressor clutch... ... or... you can just bring more cookies and I can do it for you.

...its amazing what cookies can do.
Had another good afternoon with Mike {shopartsnw} :thumb: . Disconnecting the "A/C cycling switch" accomplished what was needed. If we get a heat wave...we'll just drink beer
