Remove the battery and its tray. Then remove the overflow bottle. Then loosen and remove the nut or bolt that holds the clutch face to the compressor crankshaft. If you are going tp replace the complete clutch assembly you can pry off the face with two screwdrivers, otherwise use two wood shims to pry off the face. The screwdrivers will scratch the clutch friction surfaces, but if you are going to replace the assembly it will not matter. Disconnect the electrical connection from the clutch coil.
The four bolts that hold the compressor should be removed so the compressor can be angled downward, or upward, so that the 2 snap-rings can be accessed that hold on the clutch pulley, and the clutch coil (one each). Please note that the snap-rings have a beveled side that must face outward, that is toward you, when they are reinstalled. You do not, and should not, have to remove any A/C hose connections.
Note: 1. There is not enough room to remove the snap rings with the compressor mounted to the block. 2. Check for a compressor shaft seal leak after you get the clutch assembly off. If you have a noticable leak get back to me and I'll post some information you can use to decide whether you want to replace the compressor or the seal! rangerj
