Is it possible to replace a compressor clutch while the unit is still attached to the engine? I've pulled shims while the compressor is attached but have never tried to replace a clutch before.

Tips?

TIA

Looks a bit complicated with a list of special tools. Don't know how much room you have.

Is it an ATX? They seem to have very little room at all to work around in there. If you do, you may need to go after it from the bottom.

Leave the lines attached and unbolt and rotate it up to use the Autozoo rental removal tools.

Worked for me.

Note that you can try just replacing the outer plate that seemed to make a difference on my 110 K mile MTX.

It is difficult, mainly because of tight space, but doable and don't need any special tools. need to remove batt and tray. I've done it a couple times. Tough, but alot easier than removing compressor. The field coil however is a whole diff story. Don't ask me how I know.

It is an ATX. Just prior to the convention I pulled the plate and removed the thin shim to see if the clutch would grab. Everything worked fine until Wednesday after leaving the track (we didn't run the car on the track). Recently a rattle has developed. While watching the engaged clutch rotate I noticed that the center plate was rotating in a "jerky" fashion. Is this a symptom of a *****'d clutch?
