I am recharging my A/C system on my 1993 SHO. I put 1 can of refrigerant in, and now the compressor comes on, but I think I need a new clutch because a circular plate on the end of the clutch is very loose. Does this sound right? And does the clutch need to engage for it to blow cold air? Because I dont think it does engage by how loose that plate is. Does it sound like I need a new clutch for it?

Turn on your A/C and see if the clutch is engaged and spinning.

Check the Gap

Check the clutch gap too. IIRC it should be .021 or close. Two of my cars needed the gap reset at 100k to 115k.

How do I adjust the gap, cause I can tell that it is either way off or the clutch is worn out?

Go to SHOtimes. They have a procedure for setting the clutch gap.

If you have trouble getting the nut off the shaft, Autozone rents a tool to hold the clutch.

To work the clutch off the shaft, I like to use two very thin putty knives. They slide right into the gap, unlike screw drivers.
