Jack the front passenger side of the car up and put it on jackstands, but loosen the lug nuts on the wheel first. Then remove the wheel, and take out the plastic liner. Should see the bolts holding in the alternator. Good luck.

There are three bolts that hold it in. One on top and two on the bottom. Getting those out are the easy part, getting the freakin alt out is another story. V8sho.com had many different ways to do it. Get ready for some cursing, i just replacement mine over New Years weekend.

My idea would be have a dealer or someone with a warrantee do it. These things are a crapshoot out of the box and I wouldn't want to do it two or three times because of defective parts.

Yup 3 bolts, I removed the intake and a couple other things and pulled it up from the top. I did it this fall when my old one seized and cracked.

So, I'm not the only one with bad alternators. I've replaced the one in the RM Sho 3 times in the past year and the GM twice. Still, when I rev the GM up I get a Alt light.
I've got it down to 20-30 min to swap.

And to think people called *me* crazy for saying it CAN be done in 45 minutes.... Really I agree it is 25 minutes plus however long it takes to get the three bolts cracked loose... In a heavily corroded car, that step could take hours... Best crazy trick i have heard of however is to use the serp belt to pull on the ratchet from the drivers fender and pull across the car so you don't have to get your arms back in there.

To break loose the top bolt, I interlock 2 regular wrenches from the top. It gives me a little more leverage. I then switch over to the gear wrench to finish her off.
