Do you have the 96 upgrade on the front of your SHO? Most on here do not increase the rear brake size. The front does most of the work, and you take a weight penality as well. If you do have the upgrade on the front, IMHO your next mod would be bias plugs.;)

I do not have the 96 upgrade at all..was wondering if it would be more worth it to get slotted and drilled front rotors or do the 96 upgrade

If I were you (this is just an opinion) I would get 94/95 front spindles, a set of FN74 brackets and use 96-99 rotors and pads on the front. Drilled and slotted rotors are neat for looks, but have a tendancy to crack between the holes during track use. I would stick with slotted or solid rotors and some Autozone Performance Friction pads at all 4 corners. Also get some stainless steel braided brake hoses. You will not have braking problems with that unless you track your car every weekend.

Yeah, you definitely need to upgrade your front brakes before you mess with the rear. Most of your stopping power comes from the front, the rear is just along for the ride.

I think every SHO should have at least the 96 upgrade on the front. It's cheap, easy to do, and makes a world of difference!!! You won't be disappointed!!:thumb:

I have 2 93 MTXs

One with the 94/95 fonrt brakes and one with stockers. They both stop great, but I can tell the ones with the upgrades are a bit more responsive with better pedal feel.

Ok, I'm looking to do the "96 brake up-grade" in the future as well (when I get another SHO!) and I'm assuming that by "96" we are talking about 96-99 right? (except the brackets-fn74 which are sho specific).
So... Here we go... This Post is for Street Use Application Only

Front Brakes

on a 89-91, I'll need: 94-95 Knuckles, 94-95 Calipers, 96+ Brackets (fn74 sho), 96+ rotors and pads.
on a 92-93, I'll need: 94-95 knuckles, 94-95 Calipers, 96+ Brackets (fn74 sho), 96+ rotors and pads.
on a 94-95, I'll need: 96+ Brackets (fn74 sho), 96+ Rotos and Pads - only (keep stock 94-95 Knuckles and calipers).

For the Cobra Front Brake Up-grade look Here:
--> Link to added soon

What about the Front & Rear Calipers from the 96-99 models... Can they be used as well? - Are they an up-grade or the same as 94-95 or non usable al together? (unanswered to date)

What exactly is needed to make the use of 96+ rear brakes for the Rear?

Rear Brakes:

89-91, I'll need: (2 Options here)
Option #1 = 90-92 Knuckles, 90-92 Calipers, 90-92 Custom Rear Caliper Brackets (must order), 96+ Front Rotors and 90-92(??) Rear Pads.
Option #2 = 93-95 Knuckles, 90-92 Calipers, 93-95 Custom Rear Caliper Brackets (must order), 96+ Front Rotors and 90-92(??) Rear Pads.

92(only), I'll need: 90-92 Custom Rear Caliper Brackets (must order), 96+ Front Rotors, 90-92(??) Rear Pads, (keep stock Knuckles and Calipers)

93-95. I'll need: 90-92 Rear Calipers, 93-95 Custom Rear Caliper Brackets (must order), 96+ Front Rotors, 90-92(??) Rear Pads, (Keep stock Knuckles)

Recommendations (for street)
- Stainless Steel Brake Lines
- Performace Friction Pads (Autozone, low cost) -or-
- (??) brand (??-type) Pads
- Stock or Slotted only Rotor (Durability)
- Drilled Slotted Rotors (+/- reviews, but looks good)
- Rear Bias Plugs (+/- reviews, please research first)
- Others (??)

This should help others define Exactly what is needed for "Street Use" of this up-grade in this one thread/post with out any confussion. (which I have been, a few times!). Sourcing the Parts or Kits is at your own descression as there are several to choose from.
Hope this Helps!

*Note* Please feel free to PM me about any Corrections, Omissions or to help fill-in any(??)...If needed you can copy the entire post, edit as needed, PM it to me and I will re-post it as corrected. I'll edit others as needed. Thanks to everyone for contributing!

Rear Brakes: what exactly is needed to make the use of 96+ rear brakes for:
92-93 = ?? knuckles, ?? Brackets, 96+ Rotors and Pads (keep stock ??)
94-95 = ?? Knuckles, ?? Brackets, 96+ Rotors and Pads (Keep stock ??)
(outlined as I have above).

and If you would, could you post the the specific parts needed for:
89-91 (as above)
Front: ??
Rear: ??

Recommendation: (street)
Stainless steel lines
Rear Bias Plugs (good and bad)
Performace Friction Pads (Autozone, etc)
Drilled Slotted Rotors (maybe? / looks good)
Others ??

This should help others, like myself, define exactly what is needed for this up-grade in this one thread/post with out any confussion at all. (which I have been, a few times).
... I'll edit as needed.
Thanks!

For the fronts, you always use the 94-95 calipers. You cannot re-use your 93's calipers. For the rears, you need 90-92 calipers + caliper brackets and the 96 + front rotors. You also need to order the custom bracket from someone. When you order it, you can get either a 90-92 bracket or a 93-95 bracket depending on which rear spindles you have.

The front upgrade has been covered many times on the forum. Try using the search function for some in depth reading material. I think that the rear has been discussed a bit too.

I haven't been having alot of luck with the search feature on here finding exactly what I've been looking for; I guess I just ain't using right. I did spend about 4 hours total reading a ton of post but, I was still abit cunfussed on some things... Hey, I'm just a Dumb Ole' Fart Redneck trying to learn something new!!
Thanks for baring with me!

Without going into the finer points, that was on-road aggressive driving.

While that thread is an extreme case, even with daily driving these pads suck ass. They don't bite cold, they're sort of livable warm, and useless hot, which is probably when you'll really need them. I had them on my Cherokee also at one point, and took them off a month later.
