Are the rotors for the upgrade on just the 96 SHO?
I checked at work today (advance auto) and the listing for 96 taurus (standard) shows the rotors are the same as my 94

The '96+ SHO used larger rotors than the SLO (regular Taurus). The '95+ Continental also uses the same rotors as the '96+ SHO.

the reason your 96 showed up the same as the 94 and the 95 is because 96 actually did have the same rotor size as the 94-95. The change didn't actually happen until 96.5-99 cars.

What parts will I need for a '96 break upgrade for my '92? I am trying to do this a cheaply as possable, so I am planning on getting the knuckles for a junkyard. If I get the knuckles from a 94 or 95 taurus (do they have to be from a SHO?) what calipers will i have to use? I believe ones from a '96+. any sugestions would be appriciated.

What the heck are you talking about? All the '96 SHO's had the same brakes, larger than the '94-'95 SHO.

The bigger question is why so many topics almost a year old have been resurrected lately... shrug There are more recent threads on this topic which cover the various '96 upgrade options fully.

Anything immediately preceding the Gen III would still have been a 1995 MY car, though. So I think it is accurate to say the 95 and 96 OEM SHO brake rotors are not the same size.

I'm not disagreeing. I'm just saying, if we wanna get technical... :)

ALL 96-99 SHO's use the fn74 bracket and 11.6 inch rotors.

Yes I know there is a NEW bracket number too. but for the model years in question the bracket will be marked FN74

Im not trying to be picky or anything, but per forum rules, I searched the before posting my question as I knew this had been discussed in detail before. Turns out all my questions were answered without having to post.

As an FYI, I resurected a very old post to get it into view for others, but there are 3 threads on this page alone now all talking about the same thing. Follow the rules and do the search guys.
