Hey guys & gals, I had a few q's about transmissions I was hoping you could help me with.

I have a stock '95 ATX w/ 132k miles I recently purchased. I was told the transmission was rebuilt approx 15k miles ago but the owner didn't have any records of it> I did talk to the shop that did it and they did confirm they rebuilt it. However, the transmission is not shifting right & I've had it confirmed from 2 transmission shops in town the problem is mechanical.

My q is what is the difference between the AXOD & AX4S transmission? I've been told they were both used in the '95 ATX SHO's? Is this correct? If so, is one better than the other? If I need to have a tranny rebuilt or get a new one... should I switch to the AX4S instead of my AXOD? Is there anything else that must be changed in order to do that?

Thanks for any help anyone can give for me. The transmission is fine under most normal driving so it's not an emergency situation yet.

Thanks!

Just skimmed through the factory service manual and I think the AXOD and AX4S are the same transmission...

because it lists it as "AXOD (AX4S)" and does not mention anything about different options.. could be wrong but I am pretty sure its the same thing.

All SHO's had AX4S transmissions. The pan will say AXODE
