although not very nice to say, i am glad to say this isnt my car. But, it was my car until i sold it to a friend about a month ago. Now i feel like a tool becuz he is having some problems after recently purchasing it.

I told him i would help him if he ever needed it. Now, i am asking for shoforums help, becuz i/we are in dire need of it.

He first told me that his eatc was acting up, i asked him if his batt light was on, which he said it wasnt. I tell him to bring it over so i can check it out. I tested the batt and alt and they were both reading around 12.3v. I tell him his alt is on the way out and start saving for the replacement. I told him he might as well get it tested before he buys the new one. On his way home, the eatc quits and goes totally blank, the radio shut off, headlights shut off and the car dies along with zero lights on the dash. Tows the car home, takes off the alternator and batt to get them tested at o'reilys. They told him it was overcharging at like 16-17v.

He purchases the new alt and batt about a week ago and installs him by himself (very very surprised beings i had to show him how to change oil) and as soon as he hooks up the batt with the key off he calls and tells me that the fans are on constantly and the car cranks but wont start now. So, earlier tonite i made the 45min trip to investigate and here is what i found in the 2hrs i had to look before the light vanished

1. fans are on constantly
2. fans shut off when i swap out ccrm
3. fuel pump will not turn on with either ccrms(replacement ccrm is a known good one)
4. batt reads 12v when not hooked up to the car, but when it is hooked up it reads 271ohms  swapped this said batt into my car and it reads 12v WTF is up with that? Tried it 4x!!! reads ohms on the sho, and reads volts on my grand am. WTF?????
5. defroster light is constantly on
6. radio turns on and off
7. clock doesnt work
8. headlights dont work, neither brights or dims
9. car will not turn over
10. checked grounds, all have a tight, corrosion free connection

what did this alt do to this sho's delicate electrical system? :munch:

is it possibly:
1. fried ecm?
2. fried ccrm wiring?
3. a hair-pulling out problem?

I told him to bring the sho on over to my shop so i could look at it for him. I just feel like a huge douche, i never had a non-owner related breakdown with this car, and i feel real bad for having this happen to him in such a short amount of time that he has owned it

any input would be greatly appreciated
:thankyou:

Id run a wire to the fuel pump , from the exit of the ccrm , that will isolate if its the wires.

Not turning over means what? doesnt click? Turns but wont start? does nothing?
