Hey,
My name is Rob and I own a 94SHO Atx. my fiancee drives it for the commute to work (choosing it over her 07 dodge caliber,ha!) I jumped in to take a spin a few months ago. And noticed the car had NO power what so ever untill it hit 4grand taking about 3 times normal to accelerate then it turned into a raging beast. The warmer the car gets the better it accelerates before 4k. maf? CamPS? im sort of lost being as soon as the secondaries open up it acts like it should. Leaning on maf becouse of this. No no codes read untill this weekend when I play on digging into this.
Also a few weeks after this ^ problem, the car would not shift out of 1st gear... when it warmed up it finally did, but hard!, also went through the gears fast. into 2nd about 20 into 3rd around 28 into 4th around 30-35. Will not downshift from OD @WOT. I can manually turn off the 4th gear (OD) Sometimes when coming to a roll or stop it downshifts into 1st.. and its not comfortable at all and makes me scrunch my face.. ya know that face you make when something happened and you know if it didnt break right then it was going to if you did it again.. well I make that face comming to every redlight. I actually kick it in N before dropping below 30mph. Any help or insight on these issues would be much appreciated for my up coming work weekend. (PCM? Torque Conv? clogged trans filter?

Welcome to the forum!

Here are a couple more thoughts - does the cruise control work? My experience w/ stupid shifting on the atx is due to a bad vss. If the vss is bad, the cruise doesn't work and the pcm upshifts at seemingly random times and generally doesn't downshift worth a darn. The bad vss should set a code.

The low rpm issue could be related to that, or to a bad tps, bad mafs, the secondaries could be open all the time (easy check - they are open when the engine is off and closed at idle - you can see the dashpot movement) sometimes you get codes from these, other times you don't.....

Let us know what you find.

The Trans. issue sounds like VSS to me. The first issue is not something I've had experience with. Hope you get it all figured out.

Ya know I have the same exact problem when my car is cold sometimes it wont shift out of first until its warm and when it does shift its very ruff, Also first gear no matter how hard you push the gas pedal it shifts at 3 grand no matter what, also no downshifting at WOT, sometimes it wont go into first when coming to a stop I have noticed that it is sticking in third gear I want to beleive becuase when I put it into second manually it shifts then acts normal. Same issue with the throttle too it spits and sputters until in between half throttle and quarter throttle but once it hits 3500 RPMS it opens up and acts normal. What are you getting for gas mileage because I am getting pretty crappy gas mileage. if you figure this out let me know what you find please It is very bothersome. my car is also a 94 ATX

Ok, I checked the secondaries no problem they open and close as normal. I bought a VSS sensor and after the worst 6 hours of my life... I finally replaced it to no avail. Same issues. But only this time the speedo is really erratic(before it didnt work at all). I feel really down that it wasnt the vss and lost motivation to further investigate this weekend. Also The Cruise control dose not work. Also the Rpm gauge seems to have alot of delay. Im thinking PCM? I really dont know.

Sounds like maybe oil in the plug wells. That's an easy one to check. Is the check engine light on? run your codes if it is. The tranny I don't know about.

For the issue where the car takes forever to get up to speed: Did you see if your spout connector jumper is missing?

Also the throttle position sensor has alot to do with the tranny and engine speed functions.
It is also a mechanical sensor which can wear out over time. Check for codes even if the light isn't on.

ok thanks for all the feedback. I do need to pull the codes yes. Now the secondaries do not open up at all since the vss swap. The chilton book says somthing about using a multi meter to pull codes? can I use a test light in the same fashion?

yup, go on shotimes.com and they have a great page describing exactly what to do - the only part that is tricky is to make sure you connect to the correct pins on the connectors, and then count accurately. ;)
