I am getting ready to let my son in law drive my 94mtx because it gets way better gas mileage than his truck and he is trying to save money because he has a child coming soon. My question is how hard is it to change out emergency brake lines? I changed the caliper on the left rear Sunday and apparently it wasn't the caliper burning thru pads but the ebrake won't release all the way. I knocked it back out for now, but the next time it gets used it will just do it again. What am I up against? Thanks for any replies.:thankyou:

Where the cable is clipped to the body, it's hard to get off. I've been told to use the box end of a 1/2" wrench to get it loose.

The adjuster is generally rusted enough to not come apart, I cut mine in half there to get it all apart. It's not that bad of a job, but really not fun either.

In the meantime, you could leave the cable disconnected on that side, and park with it in gear...

is it the cable or the caliper that is binding and not releasing? while it is usually the cable, I have seen the caliper stick too...

It's cake mostly, although you would do well to get some heavy duty cutters to get the cables out rather than waste time trying to unscrew the adjuster.

And yes, some times the adjusters in the caliper bind up and require replacement of the caliper.

Or, the brake hose constricts over time and causes the caliper remain pressurized after brake application, which can seem like a frozen parking brake cable as well.

Good luck.
