OK my daughter and son-in-law bought this car and it ran great until a few big problems first they had to have the radiator replaced (transmission fluid in water ) but the bigger problem is this car eats 4 qts of oil in 100 miles of driving, no smoke but oil is gone, it had a few minor leaks but I have never seen a engine use this much oil. Car is located in the phoenix,az area so car has no rust, right now they are thinking of selling it or parting it out. has anyone ever had this problem ?:dribble:

the only place I can think of that the engine would dump oil and not make smoke is a bad oil pan gasket or the drain plug isn't sealing.

Well, it all depends on how mechanically inclined you are.

I think it is easy, others don't.

But, you said it isn't leaking.

In order for a motor to leak four quarts of oil in 100 miles you would have pretty significant oil leakage...enough that the whole bottom of the car would just be soaked.

What happened when the radiator was replaced, did the car overheat?

Is their any smoke coming out of the exhaust?

Is it blowing out the exhaust? I would also suspect the valve seals being totally cooked.

Is there any oil in the radiator (now that there should be no tranny fluid in it)? Also could be a blown head gasket.

Are you sure it was tranny fluid in the rad? Since you rad is new and all your hoses are sealing, do a pressure test on the cooling system - even if you have to do it yourself with the little hand pump unit you can buy.
You can't leak 4 quarts in a hundred miles without seeing it on the bottom of the car and the ground, and you cant burn it without a oily film on your back bumper that will smudge a cloth when you drag it over. Since 100 mile is 2 or 3 hours of driving, let it run for half an hour in your driveway. There is either going to be a quart size puddle on the ground, or one of your liquids is going to be up a quart (measure the coolant capture bottle height before you start), or the car is going to be hard to find in the oily fog. A little oil makes a lot of smoke and lots of smell, if it is burned.

Yep.

I'm wondering if that actually tranny fluid in the coolant, or was it oil? Radiator may have been fine.

well they got rid of the car. I want to thank everyone on this board for the advise they gave. One thing when listing a car for sale or parts there is a donation of either $10 or $5 dollars, well it is not a donation but a fee and should be stated that way. A donation is something I want to give not something that I have to give. Like I said thanks to everyone for the help. BYE BYE.:thankyou::wave:
