Hello All,

I have an issue with my 1994 ATX. I find that randomly the auto locks will lock the doors. I have had it happen out of no where like when I am driving down the highway. Right after that occurs many times they will cease to function for about 2 minutes then resume functioning normally.

The other issue associated with this problem is that sometimes when the auto locks hit they will act as if someone is holding the lock button down and will make a clicking noise. Basically it will hold the locks in the down position and not allow you to unlock the doors. Once again it will correct itself in around 2 minutes and resume normal operation. I have been attempting to diagnose this issue for a while with no success. I am assuming it is voltage related maybe a bad battery or a failing alternator.

Whenever this happens the locks move very slowly after they start working again. Like they have little or no power going to them

Anyway thanks for any advice in solving this,

I think there is a connection under the driver seat that controls the auto-lock feature. The connector may be loose?

A sticky (internally) lock switch can cause this.

My 00 Navigator did it due to a spilled soda. Random locking, wouldn't unlock.

Could also be due to either a remote keyless entry or aftermarket alarm, etc. Need to be specific about how your car is equipped.

My car is completely original. It has no aftermarket alarms however the original owner lost the Ford keyless entry remote so that is missing. Besides that I will check to see if one of the switches is causing the problem.

Thanks for the help,

yes an old battary and/or alternator will cause all of these problems, and usually more.you can get those tested at most major auto store...and if it is not that, then you might have some electrical gremlins to hunt down...
