I bought this 94 about 6 months ago. had been sitting for about a year bad brake lines. has 194K. after tune up and brake lines runs great. drives great except transmission seemed to be slipping when changing gears. problem seemed to get worse and would bounce the motor off the rev limiter during 1-2 shift. then all of a sudden shifted like it had a shift kit. no slipping at all. 3 days later sloppy again. yesterday go to leave a light and engine just revs accelerating slowly. drop down to 2, fine. drop to 1, fine. back to drive, slipping. does this for about a mile then slams into gear and is better. today the 1-2 is sloppy but the rest are firm. I am looking for a 5 speed parts car but dont have a lot of cash. this is my daily driver and am hoping for vaccum leak or sensor or something simple. Any Ideas???

How is the fluid? Did you pull the codes, just because there isn't an engine doesn't mean there are no codes.

fluid looked new when i got it. still looks new. not burnt or discolored. It is a little overfilled. Nothing but EGR code. New egr i think it the DPFE.

Well if you have no codes and your fluid looks good it sounds like the transmission is on it's way out.

have the trans shop test the pressures. the epc solenoids are notorious for getting bad, and this can cause wide fluctuations in shift pressures, which *could* cause the symptoms you describe. the good news is that is replaceable w/o having to pull the trans - its under the side cover.

If the shifting is relatively normal for the first several minutes but gets progressively worse after several minutes as the fluid warms and thins, you probably have a cracked forward clutch drum.
