I scanned my '94 with a Snap-on MT2500 scanner.
KOER
It spit up a code for 213 spout connector open.
Just tuned up with plugs, wires, o2's.

Engine shakes like it has a miss. Crack it above idle, and it smooths out.
Test drove car. Runs very poorly under WOT. When i parked the car, looked underneath car, the front converter was glowing. Changed converters with a spare off of a running vehicle, same result.

Any help is most appreciated!!

You need to look for a wee little connector that'll be hiding somewhere under the EEC test port area. It's called the SPOUT (SPark OUT) plug, and it's supposed to have a little grey jumper plug installed in it. Either you lost a wire (broke/frayed) or the jumper came out. There will be 2 wires going to it, obviously.

Having the SPOUT out will force the engine to run at 10 degrees BTDC and it will run like ****... much like you describe.

That won't normally explain a glowing converter, though. It might be unrelated. I'd find and correct the SPOUT circuit before looking at the cats.

Doesn't that snap-on scanner cost about as much as a SHO anyway? :rofl:

Thanks for all your help. I checked the spout connector and it is plugged in. I ran the KOER test with it plugged in and unplugged it. I noticed a change in how the engine ran at an idle. Then with the spout connector unplugged, it spit a code 225 knock sensor code during selftest. Plugged the connector back in, reran the test and the code went away. During the test, i checked the timing with the scan tool. Running at 10 degrees.
Fuel pressure tested at 36 psi. Pressure is the same, hot or cold.

I am going to put a fuel pump in the car tomorrow. Thank goodness it has less than a 1/4 of a tank.

Do research on the in-car method of doing the fuel pump. Some people poo-pooh it but it's a huge time saver for me, as the first replacement pump invariably fails after 500 miles, and replacing it the second time takes all of five minutes.

Thanks for all who responded. I found the problem to be a faulty DIS module throwing the spout connector fault. Put a new one on, code cleared. Runs like a ***** ape!!
