Hello all! I'm new to the forum and happy to be the proud owner of two SHO's....94 Green and 98 Black.

Problem: 94 3.2 started missing on one piston after washing.

What I've done so far: Pulled plug caps, removed water (lots of it) and some oil. Replaced plugs with Autolite Platnum gapped to .44 and replaced plug wires with the only thing I could get on Sunday (Advance Auto Lifetime Warranty). Read Key On Engine Off codes and only got a 335 (EGR Pressure greater than expected).

Result: Car still misses (feels like 2 pistons now...barely runs or starts). Could I have crossed two plug wires? I was very careful with the wires but all of us can make mistakes. Can anyone verify the plug to coil connection/firing order? Any chance the coil got shorted out and if so how do I check it while I'm waiting on a service manual?

Thanks!

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. I've got the #5 and #6 switched. I'll swap them back tonight and see how it runs.

That happens a lot, I did it once but caught my mistake right after I did it.

I hear that the Chilton manual has the order wrong. I checked my Chilton and they have it right. To be sure though, I also have the Helm book.

Chilton's has it wrong on one page, and right on another. skip through that section, and you'll find it (unless they've FINALLY revised their error).

Hopefully you did not cause this problem by washing the engine bay with a pressure washer or garden hose. Many of the electric components of the SHO's motor do not particularly appreciate a bath! The safest way to clean your SHO's motor is to get a degreaser (Fantastic cleaner works pretty good) and spray it on a rag, and then clean the motor with that. Takes longer, but you will not be causing yourself any unneccessary problems. Hope you get your car sorted out!

I think everyone learns the hard way about washing the engine with water. You may also have problems with those plugs and wire you will find that the car will run better longer with motorcraft wires and double plat plugs.

The secret to washing the motor off with water is to first use an engine degreaser like Gunk which is diesel fuel and then just a water hose, no high pressure stuff. Before you use the water start the motor, let it idle while you wash the Gunk off and then for at least 30 minutes after you are done.
