ok, so I was racing my buddies camaro, I was in third, and i noticed smoke coming from the back of my car, I pulled over to find a trail of tranz fluid following my. So my house was about a mile, i got it home no problem shifted fine felt fine. Parked it over night looked at it this morning. My shift linkage is fine. there is an empty set of drilled holes looks like a braket? not sure but it lost all tranny fluid, Maybe a drain plug. I cant find it. Any ideas?

There is No Stock drain plug. I'd be checking that section of road for what fell off.

ahhh that does not look good.

looks like something was ejected (most likely diff pin) / rubbed through the side of the transmission housing.

transmission rebuild is in order. + if you can find someone with a TIG welder you might be able to patch that.

If I patch it will it be drivable? Because I know a really good welder. And how much is a rebuild. (on average)? I dont have a lot of money right now but im not ready to give up.

Just for info cuz you cant see in the pic. Those holes are like 3 inches from the linkage were it enters the thanz and a little hight up, about another 2-3 in.

Due to the fact something inside the transmission broke free and made that hole, I would strongly recommend a rebuild.

However, there have been others who have managed to drive up to a couple thousand miles w/ ejected diff pins... I wouldn't recommend it though.

Transmission rebuilds are usually ~$1000. Not sure exactly how much they would want to do the SHO. If you call up a couple transmission shops and you tell the your year make / model they should be able to give you a rough quote, which would be more accurate than mine.

sorry for your bad luck :(

Yep, lost a diff pin. I think I'd get another tranny before I'd try and repair that case. Then maybe rebuild the "new" one with fresh stuff before installing it if you can afford it.

hmmm

Yeah, I had a feeling. I'll just have to park it for awhile. And yes i beat the camaro by about 10 car lengths. Well thanks everyone for the input, i'll look into a tranz there is a j/y right down the road that has an SHO. I dont know about buying a used one, but I guess it depends on miles. how long do transmissions usually last on these things? Mine has 182,000 runs like a champ. I do believe this was the original tranny.
