I think is what's bad, I herd it this evening when My gf pulled in. Poped the hood cause of the strang noise and something had chewed through the timeing belt cover and looks like a pully sticking out of one of the holes and is crooked looking.
It is either the tensioner or idler maybe? It's right behind the cover almost directly behind the serp belt tensioner area. I need to know what it may be.

The tensioner does not have a pulley directly connected to it. It pushes one onto the belt. The ATX has two idler pullies on the timing belt. One of them is obviously on its way out. I would tear it apart and get it replaced before you drive it much longer. Those are difficult to find - the TB idler pullies that is.

Is that an idler or the pulley on the tesioner going out? I need to know incase I gotta order.
Also, will the timeing belt cover from a MTX work on a ATX? There is a couple holes cut through and would rather change it. I have a 91 for parts if i can.

Would it be the one towards the firewall? That's the area where it has came through the cover.

It's not beeing driven, it's at my shop so I can tear in tommorow.

The tensioner pushes the pulley that is nearest the firewall onto the belt to keep it tight. So, yes it is near the firewall. There is no pulley on the tensioner, they are seperate pieces entirely that work together to accomplish the job of tightening the belt. The pulley is above and to the left of the tensioner. The pulley is held onto the stud by a bolt - maybe the bolt just came loose? But, most likely the pulley and its bearing are gone.

The MTX and ATX timing belt covers are specific to each other, so no your '91 covers will not work on your ATX.

Ok thanks, guess I will hunt down some atx covers. Will there be a problem with the holes beeing there ir will it just be cosmetic? Will any damage come from it? Sorry so many questions.

Well, the whole purpose of the covers is to protect the timing belt from the elements that would get on it and damage it (dirt, water, road crap....). So, a hole will compromise that. With that being said some people run without the top cover altogether because they think it looks cool. I personally would repair the cover or get a replacement. But, the car will function fine with a hole in the cover.

Fixed, The bolt in the idler that the tensioner pushes broke off in the block.
I ended up tearing all the covers off, dropped the passenger side of the engine cradle, drilled and used an eazy out to remove the remaining bolt. I question if when I had the water pump, timeing belt, and crank sensor replaced if they over tightened the bolt? Or the nut worked loose or was never tight. I found the nut and washer down next to the crank pulley. I think we got lucky on this.
I put a new bolt in with a dab of lock tight on the threads, should be ok for a while.
