I am going to be putting a new ATX in my 93 SHO. This is a daily driver, with mostly apperance/suspension mods. I am in Grand Rapids, MI. I have a few questions:

1) Where can I get the best price on an ATX (complete)? I have checked with the local dealer and they charge $1,800 for the unit.
2) I understand a FQR tranny is the best way to go. Is this accurate? Is the dealer the only place to get a FQR tranny?
3) I understand this tranny was upgraded in 95. Is this true? If so when I order my tranny how do I specify that I get the upgraded unit and will it mount/hook up just like the 93?
4) What is the best fluid I can use once the tranny is installed? I want the tranny to last.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I need to do this job soon since I am driving my 97 Mustang and winter is upon us up here in the great white north! Thanks,
Miles

It was actually the computer was upgraded, in 94/95. This will help a lot of withteh tranny. I would also get a TransGo shift kit added. It will help shifting as well.

The price sounds okay, but I am sure you could have a small shop rebuild it for cheaper.

there was also some internal upgrades with the 94 ,95 atx's I'm going to be doing mine this winter look up on rock auto the reman trans is about 1141.79 with $600 dollar core shipping to my address is 212.00 so for a reman with 12 month unlimited mileage cost is 1353.00 with core return.

rock auto part numbers are 1993 p86b08

1994 to 1995 is p86b12

i would order the 94 95 one if it was me, and have a good trans shop install the shift kit if you want to

as for rebuilt over remanufacture rebuilt is just a few parts replaced remanufacture is all new parts

I'm sure a couple of other guys will chime in on this

Any idea on how much the shift kit is? Also recomendations on where to get it? How difficult of a job it is to swap this out yourself? Lastely is a rebuilt, from a small shop typically as good as a FQR tranny? I am sure it depends on the shop, but I mean in general.

Is the Rock tranny a rebuilt or a remanufacture? Also is the Rock tranny a FQR part? If not is it a good enough tranny? I only live 1 mile from work and I also have a Mustang I drive part of the year. I will most likely not put on 10,000 miles a year on the SHO. Anyone's thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks,
Miles

the most important part of swapping a tranny is FLUSHING the cooling lines and cooler!!!!!!! any debris left in them stands a good chance of getting sucked into the new tranny and screwing it up. dirty lines are also a great way to void the warranty. I know its' hard to do, but think clean
