93 ATX Question

After 175K, I just had my ATX rebuilt. When driving on the highway the first thing in the morning, the trans goes into OD as it should but it's turning 2800 RPM at 70 MPH. It usually runs at 2400 RPM at 70. This weirdness last for around 8 miles and then it seems to settle down to the normal revs. I've taken it back to the shop and they can't find anything wrong. No codes, pressures fine. VSS? The shop doesn't think so but................. Any Ideas?

I have a 93 ATX and it runs at about 2800 rpms in fourth gear on the highway first thing in the morning. The car wont shift into OD until it warms up a bit...which then the rpms drop to abour 2300 or so.

I am betting your tranny isnt warmed up yet...and after 8 miles it is, so the OD kicks in. If this is the case, I believe that is the way its supposed to work...so there would be no codes or anything wrong for that matter.

That is normal operation. When the transmission has warmed to normal operation temp. It will allow the torque converter to lock up.

Yeah, especially in cold weather it takes a few minutes for the torque converter to lock up.

Great, thatnks for relpys. The tranny never acted this way before it was rebuilt. I guess that it was a little tired and probably not working just right. Now it seems that it is.
