I took my SHO into the shop to get the air conditioner converted and recharged, but the guy there tells me that the compressor relay isn't engaging the compressor. He says that Ford no longer makes the part, and I don't know if he'll have any luck finding one.

Anyone here have an idea of where I might look for the relay?

The "relay" is part of the IRCM module which are readily available, both used and rebuilt. It is not an individually replaceable relay.

Try Mike's suggestion first. If the clutch engages, the switch is probably bad.

Well, I just got it back from the shop. The guy said that the AC blows cold air sometimes and sometimes not; on the way back it was blowing hot air. I wonder if there's a short in one of the wires leading into the IRCM.

Are your cooling fans turning on all the time? meaning....do you ever notice your car running hot sometimes and sometimes not? Your IRCM also runs your cooling fans and you fuel pump. It is possible that the part of the IRCM that runs the AC could be bad.

The part on my IRCM that runs my cooling fans is bad so i just wired a switch, but its a different story for the AC.

Check all the connections on the IRCM and the wires leading to the AC compressor, If it looks good, there "should" be a little stick pad on your IRCM (the flat black thing on the radiator support bar), Peel that black sticky pad up and there will be a letter on the ircm. Mine is "M". Depending on your car make/model/year it may vary. If you decide thats the problem, then buy/find a new one.

Good Luck

EDIT:

Just in case you dont know where the IRCM is, here is a picture i quickly chopped up...Dont worry about the red circle, that was for something else, :nut:

This is a common symptom of a weak clutch, not an electrical fault.

Re-shimming is the standard repair. Details are around here or at www.shotimes.com
