I have a 92 MTX. The starter won't respond.

New battery. New starter. New ignition switch. Grounds all good. No broken wires. Clutch pedal lock out switch bypassed. Wires and connections all look good.

All warning lights respond with ignition in run position, the starter just doesn't respond.

Is there an inline relay that I am missing here? This one has me stumped. Any ideas.

Can you check if you have power at the starter with a multimeter and ignition on
If you have power, can you try jumping the contacts at the starter with a screw driver (insulated one) to see if it engages

Starters have had a spotty reputation as far as reman/rebuilt parts go. I have had 2 rebuilt locally and the quality of the internals is just terrible and had very early failures of said units. Alts and starters have high junk rate out of the box and shortly after install

As stated above, I would look at the electrical path and make sure power is getting to the starter. Did you bypass the clutch safety switch or was it done before? I always suspect stuff that was rigged as a failure point. Places to start.

zoomlater has described what I would do: take a screwdriver and jump across the two large terminals on the starter solenoid and see if it spins. Then have an assistant hold the key switch to "start" while I had a multimeter on the small solenoid terminal checking for voltage. Depending on what happens with those two tests will direct you how to proceed.

If you have battery cables that have non factory ends (clamped onto the cable), then take that clamp off and clean the wires where they are bolted-down.
That little detail can stop you cold.

There are two 60amp ignition fuses that can go bad. That is what mine did. Especially is the starter hangs up and you don't notice right away. They are in the fuse box on the fire wall drivers side. I changed my starter twice before looking and sure enough. One was blown

It was the starter switch itself. The switch was replaced 10 months ago and if the car had 500 miles on it since then, that would be a lot. I replaced this now with a Motorcraft. Probably was a Standard in there. I would have found this sooner but I considered the switch new and it was the last thing to check.
I just changed a crank sensor in an Audi TT with an Echlin part. My mistake. It was bad out of the box. It's got a Bosche in there now.
I'm having other difficulties as well with new electronic parts out of the box. Seems like everything is for ***** now? Unreal.

Really have to pick & choose nowadays. Even if a part has lifetime warranty, they do not pay for labor to do it again and again and ...
